ASUP STRIKE UPDATE; EMIR SAYS HE WOULD INTERVENE

The emir of Zazzau, Dr Shehu Idris yesterday promised to intervene between the government and the striking lecturers of polytechnics and colleges of education in Nigeria with a view to bring to an end the over 10 months old strike.
Dr Idris made the pledge in his palace when he received the chairman Council of Heads of Polytechnics (COHEADS) and rector, Husseini Adamu Federal Polytechnic Kazaure, Dr Kabiru Ibrahim Matazu who paid him a condolence visit over the death of the Emirate members including Saduana Zazzau, Dr Mohammed Jumare.
They appealed to him to intervene on the over 10 months old strike action embarked upon by Academic Staff Union of Polytechnics (ASUP) and the Federal Colleges of Education (CoE).
Dr Idris lamented that the strike action has lingered for too long and requires all and sundry to be worried.
He stressed the need for dialogue as a way of resolving issues, while assuring that he will speak to relevant authorities concerned to address the situation with a view to bring the strike to an end.
“If there is anything you want the traditional institution to assist in talking to people upstairs, we will be ready to assist,” he assured.
